Seamwork Porter

Seamwork Porter

It’s the end of the month, so I think it’s time for a new shirtdress pattern review. Originally released in November 2022, Seamwork Porter has been on my “to make” list ever since. I printed the pattern, cut it out, and waited. I waited for the perfect fabric to call out to me. Finally, after more than a year, the perfect fabric came to me in the form of this stunning Shibori Stars EcoVero Viscose Linen look fabric from Minerva. It’s breathable and light, which is perfect because Southern summers are no joke! Also, Porter’s simple silhouette is ideal for showing off the fabric’s cool design.

Porter is a mid-length buttoned shirtdress with bust darts, deep pockets, and sexy curved hems. If you’re wondering how a hem can be sexy, just think about how easy it would be to flash a li’l calf while wearing this dress. See what I mean? Sexy! Porter includes instructions for thread chains to secure the waist tie, but honestly, I skipped them. I HATE thread chains and almost always cut them out of my ready to wear garments. Another thing I skipped is the button on the collar placket. I never button that very top button, so it would’ve been a waste of time for me to add it.

Time to gush over this fabric! When I first got this Minerva Exclusive Shibori Stars EcoVero Viscose Linen Look fabric, I freaked out. It seemed like it would be a little too sheer for me to wear without a slip. It’s too hot for all that! Thankfully, this medium-weight fabric is just opaque enough to keep all your bits covered. This eco-friendly fabric laundered beautifully and softened to feel like a dream against the skin. This viscose has a looser weave, so finishing the seams is extremely important to prevent fraying.

There are so many Seamwork patterns that I plan to make through the rest of the year. Many of them are older patterns, so if you aren’t already a Seamwork member, I highly suggest joining. I’ve been a member since the very beginning and I’m always so impressed with the gorgeous, diverse, fun to sew patterns they release. If you’re interested in joining but not yet ready to commit, would 50% off sweeten the deal for you? If you use this affiliate link, you can join Seamwork Unlimited for 50% off – that’s just $7.50 a month for access to 200+ patterns, exclusive sewalong classes, a private sewing community, and so much more!
