Happy 2025 everyone! It seems kind of weird to wish others “Happy New Year” halfway into January, but that’s what’s happening. For various reasons (the poopy weather, the state of the world, etc.), I haven’t felt super creative lately. I honestly think having a Blackbird Fabrics haul during the November sale was the best thing I did to help move me out of my sewing funk. I have soooo many pretty things that I want to make and having the fabric staring me in the face, yelling at me, offers a surprisingly effective motivation.
I made the Pincha overalls by Ready to Sew in the navy Coastal Linen cotton chambray from Blackbird. I’ve never disliked any fabric I’ve purchased from Blackbird and this chambray is no exception. After I laundered it, it softened up and felt like brushed linen. Wrinkles are easily ironed out, but straight out of the dryer, this fabric has a slightly crinkled texture that would pair well with your favorite tee for a quick, casual look. I wore this to the office, though, so I bid adieu to the crinkles.
I’ve previously made the Patsy overalls from Ready to Sew and loved them, so I was excited to try to the Pincha pattern. My measurements landed me towards the end of Range 2, which is interesting because these overalls are the definition of oversized. With a few tweaks, this pattern could easily fit hips up to 65 inches (and possibly more). The instructions were easy to follow, and I finished these overalls in one afternoon. They’re very cozy and comfortable to wear, although the placement of the side pockets isn’t super intuitive. I’m still searching for the pockets every time instead of instinctively knowing where to place my hands. If I were to make this again, I would make the ties at least twice as long. Long, floppy ties make me feel more secure, so the tiny ties aren’t for me. Pincha is designed to hit right above your ankles, but I would like the pants to be at least two inches longer and the several inches narrower.
This pattern is described as “the perfect artist’s smock to protect you during creative sessions or a statement piece for a bohemian summer look”. Since summer is months away, I decided to play up the artist’s smock vibes and styled these overalls with a black Elysian Bodysuit from Friday Pattern Company, the Sienna Maker Jacket by Closet Core Patterns and black clogs from Target. I love the way it looks and it’s perfect for running errands, doing housework, or even just lounging on the couch.
