The cold weather has settled into the South and while autumn is my favorite time of year, I’ve started daydreaming about a bit of warmth and a change in scenery. So, of course, I’ve booked a vacation! It’s not until Spring, so instead of stressing about things I can’t control (covid rates, deadly scorpions, etc.), I’ve started thinking about what to wear. I need to be covered, but in cool, loose-fitting clothes. My immediate thought went to the Winslow Culottes by Helen’s Closet. This pattern had been on my to-do list for a while, albeit in a cold weather woven fabric. Instead, I decided to use a medium weight Blackbird Fabrics exclusive – a stunning burgundy and dusty rose paper cut floral printed Ecovero twill. It’s heavy enough to wear throughout fall, but light and flowy enough to keep me cool in the Spring!
The Winslow Culottes come in sizes 0-34 (up to a 62″/ 157 cm hip) and while there are four options for lengths, you can truly make them any length you want. They are simple wide-leg pants with flattering box pleats in the front and back, deep inseam pockets, and an invisible zipper. With only four pattern pieces, these pants came together really quickly! They are definitely a project you could start in the morning and wear later the same day. Honestly, the hardest part of this make was finding the right color zipper for the fabric. The twill from Blackbird moves so beautifully, that I can see why the Winslow Culottes were one of the recommended patterns for the fabric. Be sure to finish the seams because the fabric frays a little bit, but you’re finishing your seams anyway, right? RIGHT?! I usually have so much to say in my blog posts, but this one will be a bit shorter because the pattern was perfection, the fabric was perfection, and the pants came together in the blink of an eye! So, instead of drawing out this blog, I’m hopping over and checking out some of the amazing Winslow Culottes hacks! Go make these pants!
